EAGLE AGAINST THE SUN follows the story of Helen Nakamura, a vivacious 17-year-old Japanese American high school senior, in the days immediately preceding and following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Introduced as a typical teenager dealing with modest concerns like fitting in with her peers and finding a date for the school dance, Helen suddenly becomes the victim of racial taunts at school. Potential dates shun her and her family’s farm is vandalized. Suffused with youthful innocence yet tempered with righteous indignation, this dramatic film stands as a sharply observed reminder of the human toll discrimination and internment took on the lives of Japanese Americans during World War II.
